Global Elements 2.0 lets you reuse a shared library of rows across many rundowns. Drag elements from the side panel into the rundown, save rundown rows as new elements, keep them in sync across shows, and publish updates with a single action. This article covers everything you can do.
Who can use it?
Global Elements 2.0 is available to Admins and Show Callers. Managing labels and archiving element columns are also limited to these roles. Saving a rundown row as a new element is limited to Team Admins.
Before you start
You need at least one migrated element set. If you have not migrated yet, see How to Migrate to Global Elements 2.0 first.
Opening the panel
Open a show in Rundown.
Click the options menu (the three dots) in the top-right of the rundown header.
Select Global Elements.
The panel docks to the right of the rundown. Card view opens by default and takes about a quarter of the width. Table view opens at half-width.
Map columns first
Before you can drag elements into the rundown, you need to map at least one rundown column to a column on the element set. If mapping is missing, you will see a Mapping required banner at the top of the panel.
Click Map in the banner. (You can also open this from the panel settings menu under Column mapping.)
For each rundown column, choose the matching element column from the dropdown.
The Title column is paired automatically and cannot be changed.
At least one non-Title column must be mapped before you can save.
Click Save. The status banner shows how many columns will and will not be included.
Each element set has its own mapping. The column mapping you set up applies to the element set you are currently viewing. If you switch to a different element set, it keeps its own separate mapping, including its own Title pairing. This means the same rundown column can map to different element columns depending on which set is active.
Card view
Card view is for browsing and dragging elements into the rundown.
Search: Type in the search box at the top to filter elements by title.
Labels: If your element set has labels, click the Labels dropdown next to the search to filter by one or more labels. Click Clear filter to reset.
Usage badge: A purple badge on a card shows how many rows in the current rundown use that element.
Duration: If the element has a duration, it appears next to the timer icon on the card.
Drag in: Drag a card into the rundown to create a row from that element. The card's mapped column values flow into the new row.
Card menu: Click the three-dot menu on a card for Edit (opens table view) and Archive (removes the element from the set).
Using card view to insert rows
To use the elements to populate a rundown, simply click and drag the items from the panel and drop them into the rundown.
Saving a rundown row as a new element
Built a row in your rundown that you want to reuse? You can save it straight into an element set without retyping it in the panel.
Right-click the row number of the row you want to save.
Choose Save Row to GEM.
In the Save row to Global Elements dialog, pick the Element set to save it to. It starts on the set that is open in the panel, and you can search the list to choose a different one.
Optionally, click Add labels to tag the new element. You can also create a new label from here.
Click Save to GEM.
The row's values are copied into the element set using that set's column mapping. If the set is open in the panel, the new element appears there right away.
Your rundown row stays linked to the new element. When you edit that row later, right-click its row number and choose Publish Changes to GEM to update the element in the library.
Notes about saving rows
Only Team Admins see Save Row to GEM.
You can save one row at a time. The option is hidden when more than one row is selected.
Only mapped columns are saved. Values in rundown columns that are not mapped to the element set are left out.
The element set list only shows sets you have mapped in this rundown. If you do not see the option at all, map at least one element set first (see Map columns first above).
Table view - Editing Element Sets
Table view is for editing elements directly without having to leave the current page. To open it, click Edit on any GEM card, or use the action bar at the bottom of the panel.
Edit cell values exactly like you would in the rundown grid using the same formatting toolbar
Right click on the drag icon to access the row actions: creating new rows, cut, copy, paste, duplicate, or to publish changes
Use the Back to card view arrow in the bottom action bar to switch back when you are done or X button to close the panel entirely.
Managing labels
Labels help you group and filter elements. You can create, edit, and delete labels directly from the panel.
Create a label: Open a row's Labels cell and add a new label. The create-label form includes a color picker with preset swatches, a custom color area, an eyedropper, and a hex readout.
Edit a label: Hover a label in the labels list and open its three-dot menu, then choose Edit to rename it or change its color.
Delete a label: From the same three-dot menu choose Delete. You'll be asked to confirm, because deleting a label removes it from every row that currently uses it.
Notes:
The default Unassigned label cannot be renamed or deleted.
Only Admins and Show Callers see the label management menu.
Archiving an element column
You can archive a column on the element set when you no longer need it.
In the panel, click the column header menu (the chevron at the top of a column).
Choose Archive column.
Confirm in the dialog.
The same menu also lets you Rename column or Add column. Archiving a column removes it from the element set and from any mappings that referenced it. (This is different from archiving an element card, which removes a single element from the set.)
Panel settings menu
Click the gear icon in the bottom action bar to open the settings popover:
Element set selector: Pick which V2 element set the panel is showing.
Column mapping: Open the column mapping dialog for the current set.
Global element settings: Jump to the Global Elements tab in Rundown Settings to manage migration and element sets.
Publishing updates to other shows
When you change a global element row, you can push those changes to other rundowns that use the same element.
Switch to table view.
Select exactly one row.
Click Publish in the bottom action bar.
In the Publish Updates dialog, you will see every rundown where this element is currently used.
Tick the rundowns you want to update, or use Select all.
Use the filter box to narrow the list by show or event name.
Click Publish to N rundowns.
Notes about publishing
You can publish one row at a time. The Publish button is disabled until a single row is selected.
Nothing is selected by default in the destination list. You must opt in to each rundown (or click Select all) so you do not accidentally update shows.
If the element is not used anywhere yet, the dialog tells you so and there is nothing to publish.
Closing the panel
Click the X at the right end of the bottom action bar to close the panel.
Tips
You can switch between element sets without closing the panel: open the settings menu and pick a different set from the Element set selector.
Each rundown remembers its own column mapping per element set, so different shows can use the same element set with different column setups.
Drag and drop only works when at least one column is mapped. If the panel feels stuck, double check the mapping.
