Contour ShuttleXpress integration with Prompter

Pair a Contour ShuttleXpress to Prompter for hands-free scroll, speed, play/pause, and row navigation.

The Contour ShuttleXpress is a small USB jog/shuttle controller that gives you hands-free control of Rundown Prompter play/pause, smooth scrolling with jog wheel, speed up and down, jump between rows / blocks, and scroll the script with the wheel.

Rundown talks to the device directly in the browser, so no drivers, installers, or keyboard mapping software are required.

What you'll need

  • A Contour ShuttleXpress plugged into your computer over USB.

  • A browser that supports WebHID — Google Chrome or any Chromium based browser on desktop. (Safari and Firefox do not currently support WebHID, so the integration will not work)

Pairing the ShuttleXpress

  1. Open Prompter view.

  2. In the footer along the bottom of the prompter, click the USB icon to open the Device Connections dialog.

  3. On the Contour ShuttleXpress row, click Connect.

  4. Your browser will open its device picker — select the ShuttleXpress and click Connect.

Once paired, the device row in the dialog shows a green border and the button changes to Disconnect. The dialog stays open so you can confirm the device is connected — close it when you are ready.

Rundown remembers the device. The next time you open the prompter in the same browser, the ShuttleXpress reconnects automatically as soon as it is plugged in.

Controls

The ShuttleXpress has two concentric rings and five buttons across the top.

Outer shuttle ring (spring-loaded)

Hold the outer rubber jog wheel off-center to scroll — the further you hold it, the faster the script scrolls. Release the ring and it snaps back to center; prompter returns to whatever play state and speed you had before.

  • Push right to scroll down (forward).

  • Push left to scroll up (backward).

Inner jog wheel (free-spinning)

Spin the inner wheel to scroll the script manually. It is velocity-based, so the faster you spin, the faster it scrolls. The scroll coasts to a stop shortly after you stop spinning.

Buttons (left to right)

  • Button 1 (far left): Jump to previous row

  • Button 2 (left): Decrease scroll speed

  • Button 3 (center): Play / pause auto-scroll

  • Button 4 (right): Increase scroll speed

  • Button 5 (far right): Jump to next row

Disconnecting

Click the USB icon in the prompter footer to reopen the Device Connections dialog, then click Disconnect on the ShuttleXpress row.

You can also just unplug the device — Rundown will automatically reconnect next time it is plugged in.

Notes and troubleshooting

  • Only the ShuttleXpress is supported today.

  • Browser support. If you do not see the USB icon in the prompter footer, you are likely in a browser that does not support WebHID. Switch to Chrome or chromium based browser on desktop.

  • Permission prompt only appears once. After you authorize the ShuttleXpress the first time, Chrome remembers the permission for that site and auto-reconnects on subsequent visits.

  • The outer shuttle ring temporarily overrides auto-scroll. While you are holding it off-center, auto-scroll pauses and the speed slider follows the ring position. When you release the ring, the previous play state and speed are restored.
